Lying to Congress isn't new. Before I bought my farm I asked the right questions about the industry and pricing. I even read the reports to Congress about how many investigations there were in the industry by GIPSA (under former administrations). There was an investigation of GIPSA by the OIG (Office of Investigator General) about GIPSA testimony to Congress and it was found that the agency was hiding investigations and not truthfully reporting them to Congress. This was under Mike Johanns. The lady who was head of GIPSA disappeared before the damaging report on GIPSA came out and Sec. of Agriculture Johanns swept it under the rug.

Let us face it, our political leaders are prone to rig regulatory agencies to get the bribes that rich individuals or corporations give to Congress. There has been a direct link between the NCBA and Congress as the NCBA is partly controlled by their founding partners--- the meat packers.

What is astonishing is that politicians by and large get away with this Washington two step and continue to collect benefits from these corporations who are breaking the law and exploiting the confusion that meat packers and their attorneys throw up against the family farmer. In fact, the USDA is STILL FUNDING, as they did me, people into these market ponzi schemes the meat packers are playing.

There are definitely some in Congress who should be in jail over these issues, not continuing to play interference for these large corporations and confusing the issues with testimony by their allies.

It is one of the reasons our country is in the mess it is in today and why there is a huge concentration of wealth in the country. 400 of the richest people in the country have more wealth than the bottom 150 million (yes, I said million) people in the United States and they continue to get tax breaks on their income. They don't pay SS taxes over about 150 K while almost everyone else in the country does. "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

We need some serious jail time for those who are deliberately lying to Congress so Congress can continue to sell out the U.S. economy to the highest bidder. Either that, or the Congress needs to show a whole lot more competency and ask real questions, not throw softballs to the industries they are supposed to have oversight in regulating. Asking meat packers how they want to be regulated and giving credence to industry made up "economic analysis" just won't cut it anymore.

Give back the donations and other benefits you get for selling your power on the Hill, Congress members.

I read the staff report for the hearing and J. Dudley Butler is misquoted once again. It is a shame that outright lies have been and continue to be used to try to prevent the GIPSA rules from taking effect.

Why is it these hearings are so one sided?? I mean it is the same folks singing the same old song. The only way to get the truth is to stop that song and spin it backwards. Economic analysis?? Come on..who commissioned that? That is easy to do when you know the desired result before you ever start. I do like the above comment's "straw man" analogy. Reminds me of a quote from Harry Truman.."If you can't convince them...confuse them."

The GIPSA rules are about specific court cases where meat packers have used their market power to price discriminate and cause all sorts of damage to the market at the expense of family farmers.

The meat packer attorneys came up with the idea that they could tell the producers that there would be no more premium incentive programs for quality products. That was never in the GIPSA rules, it was just meat packer propaganda. So the meat packers have set up a straw man to argue against and to get producers to give those in Congress who are getting paid off by meat packers to allow them to price discriminate and take the private property value of their suppliers through extensive price manipulation games. I guess Darrell Issa is just not smart enough to see this or is just too rich to see the scams being played in the market place.

It would be nice if the NCBA would stop supporting the straw man the meat packers have convinced them to prop up for them and instead read the actual GIPSA rules and the court cases where meat packers have cheated family farmers out of the value of their products. I guess that would take too much work compared to talking points being handed out by meat packers.
